Climate change has a significant impact on the marine industry, as they need to continuously invest in upgrading their fleet to improve efficiency and control emissions. 21 knots provides tailor made solutions for meeting the industry target of IMO 2050.

21 Knots provides engineering solutions for marine conversions and retrofits. We understand the timely retrofit requirements of in-service vessels. Our solutions are tailor made for quick deployment by shipyard or by riding crew. At the same time, we focus on minimum alterations to existing arrangements in the vessel.

Our designs for conversions and retrofits incorporate all Classification Society requirements. Since conversions involve handling of many existing vessel components, we outline a conversion strategy for such projects. All new components to be installed on the vessel follow a stage-wise installation approach.

Across all our designs, we ensure engineering is always production friendly.

3D Scanning: 21 Knots provides 3D scanning services for vessel conversions and retrofits. We use an array of laser scanners suited for multiple environments. We provide high-quality, colour scans even in low light conditions and for confined spaces. In special cases, we undertake scanning in hazardous zones with explosion proof laser scanners.

Our 3D scanning team is always accompanied by project engineers for preliminary installation planning on site. We deliver registered point cloud data aligned to vessel’s coordinate system. Our offering for 3D scanning typically includes:

  • 3D scanning of engine room / pump room / engine casing / deck / accommodation
  • Ship checks: tracing of ballast lines, exhaust lines, pumps running tests, crew interviews, equipment locations and major pipe routes planning
  • Preliminary Master Conversion Plan, P&ID, Electrical Load Analysis, equipment placement and conceptual pipe routing

Basic Design

  • Mechanical design: Ballast, Sea Water, Fresh Water, Control Air, Exhaust, Steam, Drain, Air & Sounding P&IDs, Pressure Loss / Back Pressure Calculations, Equipment Arrangement, detailed pipe routing
  • Electrical design: Electrical Load Analysis, Power and Control System Wiring Diagrams, Short Circuit and Selectivity Analyses, Integration with GPS, AMS, PMS
  • Structural and general design: Master Conversion Plan, Tanks and Engine Casing Structural Design, Sea Chest and Overboard Arrangement, Equipment foundations design, engine room platforms and outfitting design, lightweight calculations, Ballast Water Management Plans, Hazardous Zone Plan

Detailed Design

  • Pipe spool and support drawings, piping layout drawings
  • Cable ladder layout, cable schedule, termination drawings
  • Structural assembly, bending and nesting drawings, profile cutting plans, foundation drawings, pipe penetrations drawing
  • Foundation drawings, pipe penetrations drawing
  • Material lists for pipes, valves, pipe fittings, pipe supports, electrical fittings, cables, structural outfitting
  • Shipyard specifications, clash check report

21 Knots has experienced teams of Naval Architects and Marine Engineers which can offer EEXI related services with optimally engineered solutions in-line with IMO requirements.

  • Calculate ship specific attained and required EEXI as per regulatory requirements.
  • Develop ship specific EEXI Technical Manual
  • Preparations of Onboard Management Manual (OMM) for ships opting for ships using Overridable Power Limitation (OPL) to comply with EEXI.

EEXI Improvement Calculations and Advisory (non-compliant vessels)

  • % reduction in engine or shaft power limitation required to achieve compliance
  • Estimate of the vessel’s maximum speed reduction if opting for engine power reduction.
  • Minimum power assessment for ships which are subject to MARPOL Annex VI Reg 21
  • Prepare Onboard Management Manual for ships opting for engine or shaft power reductions
  • Feasibility study for use of innovative energy efficiency technologies covering technical requirements, commercial impact, ROI

We are actively involved in green ship recycling services. We provide consulting services for construction, operations and recycling of ships. Our operations are focused on providing high-quality services to vessel owners, ship recycling facilities and shipyards. Our team is certified for Inventory of Hazardous Material surveys.
